Aleya’s husband is working in the Gulf for the last 8 years. Remittances constitute the primary source of the earning of her 6-member family. In the absence of her husband, Aleya is not only managing the household efficiently, but also taking initiatives and important decisions regarding daughters’ marriage, son’s employment, seasonal business for extra income, renovation and extension of the house and so on. Aleya and his husband prove that success in migration depends, to a large extent, on the joint effort of migrating men and their left behind women. While the regular flow of remittances is ensured by the migrating men, women may significantly contribute to the household development by making the efficient and effective utilization of the remittances.
