As part of implementation of the RPP project, RMMRU, with partnership with its local NGO- Uddipan, organised a remittance fair at Laldighir Maidan, Chittagong on 25 October 2008. Local branches of almost all the leading government and private banks participated in the fair and displayed their leaflets, brochures and other printed materials on remittance transfer and savings and investment shemes. RMMRU, bank officials, members of Migrants Rights Protection Committees and local leaders took part in the discussion sessions organized in the fair. Cultural events such as folk song and theatre on various issues of migration were also staged in the fair. The fair attracted hundreds of people from the locality and became successful in providing a relatively larger group with information about safe migration and the importance of remitting money through formal channels as well as avenues of effective utilization of the remittances.
